Donating blood is one of the most precious gift that one can give to another person. Donating Blood involves no money transaction. Willingness to save a life is all that you need.

There is no restriction on anyone that everybody should do blood donation.

But it is our responsibility to donate blood and save lives. One single donation can be split into three parts, saving the life of those in need of blood. Doctors say that just three teaspoons of blood can save the life of a premature baby.

Donating blood has many benefits:

However, a prospective blood donor has to undertake the following tests to donate blood, mandatorily, which include:

  3. Body Temperature
  4. Haemoglobin Levels

Those suffering from:

  1. Hepatitis B
  2. Hepatitis C
  3. HIV
  4. West Nile Virus
  5. Syphilis
  6. Trypansoma Cruzi are not allowed to donate blood

In India, there is a shortage of blood to the tune of 12 lakh units. There is a deficit to the extent of 85% in States like Bihar; while in excess, in Delhi which has 233% extra blood than its requirement.

From accident victims, trauma induced cases to patients suffering from cellanemia, thalassemia and haemophilia need large quantities of blood daily.

On an average, about six units of blood is needed for every open heart surgery, while a roadside accident victim could need up to 100 units.

“A WHO data says that one out of every 10 people admitted to a hospital needs blood”. Men can donate blood once in 3 months; while women can donate blood once in every 4 months.
